A mouse is a very personal item; most people find one they love and never want it to get discontinued. As a mostly PC gamer for most of my life, I've had 3 mice that I've fallen in love with and all but one is out of production now. I like 8Bitdo quite a bit and this mouse is no exception, in fact, this is ALMOST a perfect mouse, but there's a few leering issues I've ran into.Pros:- Aesthetics. Very cool looking retro design reminiscent of a particular game console and it nails it right down the matching stand.- Comfort. Until now, I've never used an ambidextrous mouse that I've found comfortable. Fits best to a medium-large hand in my opinion.- Magnetic Charging Stand. THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE ADDITION AT THIS PRICE RANGE. I want to yell that from mountains for all to hear, you do not see a mouse like this, with a weighted magnetic charging stand, that is designed and built this well for $69 CAD (price at time of writing). The stand also has a slot for the 2.4Ghz wireless dongle. Amazing.- Features. While pretty standard for all wireless gaming mice these days, you have the option of wired, 2.4Ghz and BT. Heads up, 2.4Ghz is the way to go for the wireless option unless severely limited by the product you're using it on. Very smooth skates (remember to remove the plastic covers on them) and good switches on both the right, left, scroll wheel and side buttons.Cons:- Side Buttons. I knew this was going to hit or miss just looking at the picture of them. They're obviously not in the same place you're accustomed to on 90% of mice out there, but I was super bummed that they're so recessed making it difficult to actuate without actually pressing them with the end of your thumb, whereas I'm most used to hitting the "back" button with the joint of the thumb and lightly clicking in the "forward" with the end of my thumb. If you can get past this positioning, I think you're going to love this mouse.- Software / Firmware. I'm not going to have this con affect my score because I can see they're actively working on it. As of the time of this review, the software isn't bad-- very light weight and saves most settings to the mouse so you don't need to run the software all the time. BUT while the DPI setting saves, for some reason on computer restart, I have to reload the software to get the back/forward buttons working (I can close it after). However, every day I've been using this mouse there's been a new firmware update available, so I have faith they'll get this straight based on their track record.Overall:- The Retro R8 is a ridiculous value, like absolutely silly value at the current price of $69 and while I find the side buttons to be a deal breaker for me to take over my current gaming mouse; if you're playing less intense games, basic computing or just needed an awesome looking wireless mouse at again AN AMAZING VALUE, you should seriously consider the R8 Retro. If 8Bitdo makes a gaming mouse with side buttons in the regular spot and this awesome charging stand? I would buy it immediately. Hope this helped!

This is an excellent computer mouse from a reputable company, with pleasantly premium specifications at this price point. Even the dock is a joy to both use and behold; I have seldom seen such an attractive and useable dock on a wireless mouse.8bitdo's software is required to configure the mouse, but it is perfectly fine overall, without overly complicated or needless settings.I did find that my right pinky finger would tend to rest on the right-side buttons (which are there due to the mouse being ambidextrous), which caused a distraction as my finger no longer has a smooth surface to slide on compared to my daily ergonomic mouse. I am sure I could probably get used to it over time. Speaking of the side buttons, they are too recessed for my taste (they require a more conscious effort to actuate), but this is entirely subjective. The main clicks themselves are perfectly fine.If you enjoy the retro look and excellent specifications, and you are well aware that this is an ambidextrous mouse, this product is very much worth considering.

I'd have to say, this mouse is designed very good.I love that the dock is both charging and for usb dongle extension. The included usb cable is sufficiently long and braided. You can plug the dongle into the dock, and it's designed so you can dock your mouse and dongle won't get in the way.Aesthetically pleasing to look at.Has lots of side buttons to customize the use.Mouse also has switch to switch from dongle to BT connection is needed.Problem is the shape of it, just doesn't feel good on my hand in the long run.Maybe because I had to clamp my fingers so the fingers lay on the side buttons, maybe doing that, my hand floats on the mouse, so it's not supported. Not sure. But for the looks of it, retro fans will love it, and may overlook the comfort issue.

The only mouse you'll ever need. The weight of the charge dock is portioned perfect so that you can lift the mouse off without lifting the charge dock. The mouse is held on by magnetics and the 2.4ghz dongle plugs into the dock also for a short wireless signal distance. 500mah battery so it won't go dead on you while not in use. The thing goes up to 8000hz polling which is just insane. Looks NES themed and I adore this. Very light weight mouse and super comfortable. Has 4 side buttons, 2 on each side, easy to press and positioned so I don't accidently press them. The wheel feels great with a button below it to change DPI on the fly. Goes perfect with my Retro NES style keyboard. Grab both and you'll be happy.

Love the mouse, it matches my 8bitdo Retro NES keyboard. As per usual with 8bitdo, everything is very high quality, feels great to unbox and works seamlessly. The mouse is a great size and all the buttons and scroll wheel feel great to use. It isn't really a complaint, but the mouse is pretty light. I think some people prefer that, but it took me some getting used to. The base looks sweet and has a great weight to it, such that I can take the mouse on and off of it with ease. I haven't played around with the software, but just use my mouse and keyboard for generic every day use on my apple Mac mini. Very happy with my purchase!
