Best Benchmade knife I own. I do own a few but this was the highest quality one I've owned to date. You can literally feel how well it's made when holding it.

This knife was a huge letdown. First off, it's boring to look at. The scales have a dull finish, the coating on the blade makes it look cheap. It reminds me of a knife that would come in a plastic clamshell case from Walmart. Nothing about the look of this knife speaks of excellence, and it gets worse. The blade was not that sharp out of the box, it was usable, but not razor sharp like I'd expect from a $300 knife. It failed the paper slicing test that a Kershaw that cost half as much passed easily. The finish on the blade does not feel consistent. Some spots are a little grittier than others. The worst thing was the action. The pivot screw was tightened so tight the knife was almost unusable. It took two hands to open and close it. I was able to loosen up the pivot screw and free up the action but doing so made the blade off center. I didn't spend $300 on a knife with the intention of tuning it myself. I also don't like the lanyard loop on the back of the knife. It digs into my palm when opening and closing the knife and makes it uncomfortable to fidget with. This was my first Benchmade knife and I was very underwhelmed. I'm going to exchange this for a 940 which hopefully I'll like better. The Bailout is a great size, very thin and light weigh and would make a good EDC knife. Once adjusted the action was very smooth, but not as smooth as the Kershaw Bel Air.

It’s a beautiful knife and has a thin functional blade. For a knife collector like me definitely a joy to have. But it can not handle abuse like the 940. If you are not a collector and need one every day carry then get the 940.
