I wanted to relocate my modem to a more centralized and open area so that the wifi signal is stronger for my devices. This fits the bill to a tee. It's a shielded cable so there is no interference, and with 50 ft., it has ample length for me to move the modem to the ideal spot. It works really well for me, and the black Friday price is unbeatable (even the list price is far better than what what my ISP would charge - I did casually ask my ISP technician and my choice to go with this was validated).

used to replace standard phone cable. speed slightly higher but less interference and a lot less jitter, etc as is shielded. bit expensive imo.

I write this review in response to the guy who complained that the cable is from 1999.The cable is "SFTP" shielded, and this is printed on the jacket. Those letters stand for "Screened Fully-Shielded Twisted Pair."This is an improvement over regular phone cables because of three things.1. Pairs of conductors are twisted together to minimize crosstalk. This technology was invented by Alexander Graham Bell, so it much precedes the 1999 timestamp conferred by the other reviewer. it works by allowing both conductors of the pair to absorb the same amount of electromagnetic interference as one another from an adjacent source.2. The pairs are each shielded with foil. This is another means to keep electromagnetic interference from altering the signal transmitted across the pairs, and it dates back to Michael Faraday.3. All of the pairs (in this case two of them) are bundled and together wrapped in foil to further protect the integrity of the signals transmitted through them.None of this technology is groundbreaking, but the reason to use shielded cat 5e ethernet cable is simple: most phone cord doesn't go to such great lengths to protect the signal, while ethernet cable is designed with signal integrity in mind due to the greater throughput demanded by its applications. The connectors on this cable are very nice. Unlike most phone cords, they feature strain reliefs. The connectors are shielded, which is important for the foil shielding of the cables to work properly. At 7ft long, this cable may also be substantially shorter than the green DSL cable provided by your ISP. That is a good thing. If your green cable is bunched up and zip-tied, using a shorter cable ceteris paribus is an obvious way to reduce the voltage drop between your gateway and the ISP's DSLAM.This cable may not improve your connection if your internet is already working properly, but if you are having problems with your existing cable and/or you wish to spend a few bucks on a high-quality RJ11 cable for your DSL gateway, it is a solid choice. Don't worry about the year that cat 5e was introduced; cat 7 was introduced in 2002 but that doesn't mean 10GigE is obsolete. Focus instead on the problems you are having with your internet service and how to improve your connection by improving the weakest links in your setup.

I purchased this for the same reason many others probably have, the jack where my DSL modem plugs in was not a convenient place to leave my modem. My only regret is not buying a longer one than 15 foot. It was JUST barely long enough and it would have been nice to have some wiggle room.I was concerned that longer might degrade my line quality. Fact is, I tested my modem with the OEM cable several times and then plugged in the new line before I even moved the modem and discovered to my happy surprise that it was actually faster with this 15 foot cable than the 3 foot OEM green cable that came with my modem. Even the connections seemed more solid. So I think I could have gotten an even longer cable and still had a fine connection. Very impressed!
