The functionality really meets my expectations and the adjustments in front and rear are very fine, but since I am using a Sako s20 hunter version, the fit for the rear stock hunter version it places the edge of my hand on the edge of the rear rubber padding of the shooting rest. After approximately 1 hour of shooting it becomes irritating. I might sand the sharp edge of the rear rubber hold to get a more comfortable hand position. The build quality is ok, but not comparable to German or Swiss manufacturing. I have only had it with me to the shooting range one time + a lot of dry training, so I might change me opinion once I have used it for a longer period.

All too often these days most I things I buy fall short of my expectations, and seldom does something exceed them, especially if it's made in China. Therefore I feel compelled to write a review about the Caldwell Stinger, because it exceeded my expectations, and even though it's from China, the quality is excellent.Assembly was easy and straight forward, and the instructions were very clear, unlike most things from China. No need to say more here.I love everything about this shooting rest! It is rock solid without being overly heavy, and it offers precise micrometer like dial-in adjustablity. The adjustments are a pleasure to use and it's very fast getting it on target. It is the nicest rest I have ever used, and I like it a lot more than my Lead Sled. If a stable rest is what you are looking for, and don't need recoil mitigation, I would highly recommend this one. I use it for my .22s, my 30.30, and my .308, as well as my .177 & .22 Air Rifles , where it excels at holding Spring-Piston rifles properly.It should be noted that this style of rest is not intended for recoil reduction like a Lead Sled with weight bags and a butt stop, and straps, although it does seem to reduce my .308 recoil somewhat. The rifle is free to float in an "Artillery Hold" which will improve the accuracy of most rifles, especially Spring-Piston air rifles.I am right handed by nature, but I am a left handed shooter because I am left eye dominant and my right eye as an astigmatism. This rest claims to be ambidextrous, and even though the main elevation knob is located on the right, it is not a problem reaching under the rifle or under the rest to make adjustments. It's really quite easy, yet I noticed another left handed reviewer complained about this. I'm not sure why because it is not a problem at all to adjust with either hand. Maybe it's because I'm not naturally left handed so I don't have an ax to grind against the predominantly right handed world. South Paws worry not, ...this will work for you if you don't have an attitude!The rest does move on the shooting table like others have noted, especially with larger calibers, but that doesn't concern me because I want a steady rest, not a recoil absorbing rifle clamp. Some shooters want to eliminate the recoil and movement altogether, I only need it to hold the rifle steady until I pull the trigger. I don't care if the rifle or the rest moves after that. It takes less than a second to reposition, and it doesn't affect the groups. I can consistently put rounds thru the same ragged hole at 25 yards with this rest, and I might need a nickle to cover the groups at 50 yards. But if you need rest that doesn't move after it's fired, get a Lead Sled and bolt it to the table.As noted by others, the rear adjustment does cause the rest to creep around as you turn it. I found that putting a self-adhesive rubber pad on the bottom of the rear foot eliminates that completely. Not only that, but it will increase the stability of the rest at least 25% if not 30%. The way this comes it is essentially a tripod with only two rubber feet with some traction, and one plastic foot with no traction. Adding the 3rd rubber pad to the rest really improves it's stability tremendously. I was lucky to find a nice low profile black one, but any rubber pad will work and they are commonly available at any hardware store.The Stinger works OK with my AR10 pistol, but it's a bit tricky getting it all adjusted for it, because the Pistol has an arm-brace instead of a shoulder stock, and a very short barrel. The short barrel of the AR Pistol platform will prevent the use of a 20 or 25 round magazine in the AR10, because it needs to sit so far forward on the rest that an extended mag will not clear it. So when I use the Stinger I need to use a 10 round mag which clears nicely. I assume an AR15 pistol will have same problem with a 30 round mag and a short mag would need to be used. The AR rifle platform however has a long enough barrel that even a 16" SBR can sit back far enough to provide clearance for larger mags.The last thing I care about in a shooting rest is looks, because obviously that isn't going to improve your shooting, ...unless the rest looks so cool that you just feel better about yourself, and as a result your groups get a little tighter. Hey, ya never know! Well if that's the case, this is the rest that would do that, because it does look pretty darn cool! I can say with certainty, It is a real pleasure to use this rest.
