I prefer the look of terra cotta/ceramic in my aquarium, and I prefer American made. It is smooth with no jagged edges, important for my Axolotl. I love that I don't have to worry about it leaching chemicals into my tank. I ended up enlarging the opening for the Axolotl with a fine sander attachment, but I would not recommend that unless you don't mind risking breakage and wasting money. It has gotten a bit small for the Axolotl, but she still uses it. I wish Cobalt Aquatics would create some adult Axolotl sized hides!

I bought 2 of these the first time and when they arrived, one was completely shattered. I put in for a replacement, and it arrived 2 days later again. Sadly, this one was broken too, but not destroyed. The opening was broken and there is a crack, but I filed down the sharp edges and put it in the tank anyways because my fish love these huts.I have one hut in a tank with my loaches, and the other is in a community tank and my bumblebee catfish love them.
