Ansonsten top.

Overall I am very pleased with this kettle. It heats my 300ml of water on my gas stove faster than my microwave and the handle stays cool. The picture shows my only complaint. I have not cleaned this lid in way except by wiping it with a damp cloth. The plastic cover of the thermometer is developing more cracks everyday and in a short time it is bound to fail. Apparently this is from heat transmitted up through the needle shaft. I don't believe I have any cooking implement made of plastic and subjected to any heat that this doesn't happen to. This thermometer cover should be made of glass. Now the thermometer has completely ceased to work. It is reading 30 degrees high and is not adjustable like most kitchen dial thermometers are. The replacement lid/thermometer combo is way overpriced when you only need a thermometer. I have ordered some replacements from Temu which are probably the same origin and quality this one was. We'll see if they work. The thermometers from Temu required some extra hardware to fit but work fine. Actually none of these inexpensive bimetallic thermometers from China are accurate at all over their entire range, but for this purpose you only need an accurate reading of 205 degrees F. When you check what these thermometers read when an accurate thermometer reads 205 then you just use that reading. The pot itself is holding up well and for what this item costs that is probably all you could expect. If you really think having this accurate brewing temperature is important, then you need a reliable thermometer and that means a digital one from a good company like Thermoworks. When the current thermometer breaks I am going to use a Thermopop 2 that I have adapted to fit this kettle (see picture). That should work the rest of my life. That thermometer costs as much as the kettle but it's still cheap.

This kettle is exactly what I needed after receiving a Chemex as a gift.It arrived smelling a slight bit on the chemical side in the packaging, more like plastic and or rubber and mass production, nothing unusual or weird.I washed it out thoroughly a couple of times and the smell was gone, simple and easy fix for that. The Kettle arrived nicely packaged in an easy to open box, in excellent condition. After inspecting it I found no cracks or glaring scratches, no rust or anything negative. Just a few scuffs here and there and that would buff out if I cared to work on them.Immediately it felt like the kettle was small, and I should have paid more attention to the 1liter size that is mentioned in the description because it is small, or at least on the smaller side for kettles. Mind you I am not coming from a monster 2 liter kettle or anything, just a run of the mill cheap-o mr coffee 1.3 or so kettle.Obviously it doesn't whistle since it has no mechanism for that in the gooseneck so you'll need to check up on it with the thermometer to be sure it isn't getting too hot.The water temp stays in the green or good to brew zone for quite some time. I noticed when pouring over my Chemex that it didn't start dipping below that until almost the end of the process.I have a single con or negative about this kettle; it's too small to heat up enough water for a full Chemex or pot of coffee.I realize during my first brew with it and my "medium sized" Chemex that does about 6 cups of coffee when full that this wasn't enough water, it was actually about half. So the good news is you can be exact with your measurements even using this kettle, just brew half a Chemex at a time with 3 rounded tablespoons of grounds as opposed to 6 tablespoons. My only suggestion for coffee gator is to perhaps offer a larger kettle, one capable of doing a 6 cup pot of coffee in a single go.The actual product itself though, absolutely perfect, and exactly what I needed.---Update 3/19/17Much after my original purchase update I realized that I never got around to asking for a replacement lid since I received one of the ones that had a misprint on it, jumping from 180 degrees to 220 when in reality that was 200.After a couple of emails Eve with Coffee Gator got me a replacement, almost a year after I originally bought the kettle. This level service was the deciding factor in my purchase of the cold brew kit from these guys.PS the kettle is still performing exactly as it should. No rust, no discoloration. If you take care of it by making sure it doesn't have water sitting in it after use and taking the lid off when you're done heating up water so it can dry out, this will last.
