Opening up oysters can be downright dangerous if you don't know how. This Oyster shucker is a real boon - a sturdy blade, strong wooden handle, and with a handy guard to stop your hand sliding toward the blade. I bought this for my missus, who is an oyster fiend, and it has quickly repaid the outlay.

I eat one case -100 oysters - per week, delivered from P.E.I. every week.I have owned and used this Deglon knife for years. Sadly I broke the tip.(My fault for doing something stupid with it. Otherwise, it would have lasted even longer.) I own different oyster shuckers, but this is the best. Even without the tip, it was better than my 5 other shuckers.The tip wriggles into the opening. The side slices the oyster open without shrapnel. (That is the bit that no other oyster knife does as well as the Deglon.) The width of the blade makes it both more robust and more comfortable to twist the knife to open the oyster. No other knife is as good: most are too thin and make your wrist work harder to twist to open. Most are pointy, but not very sharp on the side. So they slip into the opening, then do not help you to slice the oyster open or to cut off the foot. Most do not have a guard, so you hurt yourself more.The quality is great (the French do know about cooking ustensils). The material is impressive (innox does not rust and the wood stays beautiful and pleasant to hold even after decades of use and washing.) The shape of the handle is comfortable. And this is important if you shuck a lot of oysters. It does feel much nicer than the plastic ones. And this is both because of the wood and because of the shape of the handle... I like that there is a guard to protect fingers. (In the beginning, I did have ''accidents'' that would have hurt it it had not been for the protective metal guard. And it may still be useful now that I am more experienced...I was so happy to find this on Amazon!The only other shucker I also use is a super thick oster knife that is useful to lever-open very large oysters. But even with that I still need the Deglon knife to slice them away from the shell and then cut the foot. Without my Deglon knife, either the oyster is torn from the shell, which leaves out too much on the shell and does not look as good to serve. Or there is shrapnel, which is a pain to get rid of.The Deglon oyster shucker is a great buy and you will not regret it.

It's an excellent oyster knife, guard protects the hand, tip is not too thick, blade is rigid enough. My husbands favorite oyster knife.Remember to hand wash it.
