The rack arrived with a disappointing finish—definitely below my standards. It seemed like it was stained and immediately packed, resulting in a residue that easily transferred to a paper towel with a quick wipe (see photo).I used 220-grit sandpaper on one piece, and it quickly removed the stain, revealing bare wood underneath (see photo). I then hand-sanded another shelf with 400-grit sandpaper, which helped even out the appearance (see photo). To test potential finishes, I applied a coat of wax oil and two coats of spar urethane—these photos show the results.At the very least, I'd recommend wiping down the parts before use. If you want a more even, polished look, a light hand-sanding with 400-grit sandpaper works well. For a truly finished and durable result, you'll need to apply some kind of sealant or protective finish over the stain.Because of Amazon's time constraints for Vine reviews, I couldn't complete the entire project before posting this. However, I assembled a portion of the rack to test it out, and I was pleased with the quality. The fitment was snug, the pre-drilled holes were accurate, and assembly was straightforward. The included instructions are clear and helpful, but honestly, the assembly is so simple that you could do it without them. I purposely assembled it using the small screwdriver that came with it to see if it could be done and how easy it would be using only what was provided. Surprisingly, it worked well, showing that the pre-drilled holes are done properly. That said, most people will probably prefer using a larger or powered screwdriver to speed up the process.Overall, I’m giving this rack a 3-star rating mainly because of the poor finish quality. While the construction is solid and assembly is easy, the lack of a proper, complete finish means you’ll need to put in extra effort if you want it to look polished and last over time.
