Looking for a replacement filter for sink top water filter and this was perfect Had difficulty getting one elsewhere but this was not only the right one, it was much cheaper than others advertised, arrived promptly and was packed extremely well so nothing was damaged Very impressed and will be buying from here again

This is one of the best water filtration filters you can buy and the best for everyday water drinking.

This product works very well. If you aren’t getting flow, it is likely in backwards, as there is a solid cap on one end. I use this at the end of a three filter sequence - particulate/carbon/ceramic, and I find this combination removes all the chlorine, and about 80% of the TDS in my tap water. The water tastes very pure, and I use it for my plants and in my humidifiers

I used this in my RO system, added after the primary filter. So it's (filter)>(Doulton)>(RO membrane)>(final filter). Remember that this ceramic filter works as a restrictor, so pressure drop is proportional to flow rate. Using it as I did, the flow rate is very low (.04 gpm), so pressure drop is almost zero. That means the RO membrane is not affected, and works normally. Installing it this way also protectes the membrane from pathogens. Make sure you fully flush the Doulton before you put it in service, or after you clean it.Does it work? I've tested these before using live bacteria and culturing. The filter itself works great. In your RO system, there are two things to note. 1, because of the low flow rate, the bacteriolgical effectiveness is higher, as water stays in contact with the impregnated media longer. 2, if your cartridge is not properly fitted and sealed, the filter is useless. The Doulton does have rather substantial sealing rings on both ends, and as long as you are careful, there is a good chance that your filter will seal correctly in a standard housing. However because of the 2 above mentioned opposing factors, it would be wise to test your system if you are absolutely concerned. In short, great ceramic filter that does what it's designed to do.On Edit: Using the above set up, I started to see a drop in flow after about 60 days because my first filter at nominal 1 micron still lets enough particulate matter through to clog the Doulton. So I moved it after the RO membrane:(pre-filter)>(RO membrane)>(Doulton)>(final filter)That way the Doulton only sees RO water, and should almost never clog. I put the Doulton before the tank, so the tank is 'protected' by the Doulton filter, but the downside of course is that the RO membrane is not. Not a big deal, because the RO membrane can be changed easily if needed.

So, of *course* with this much filtration for small particles, as with all filters, this will clog quickly if your water isn't very clean. With city tap water you should put a normal 1 micron pre-filter before the ceramic filter. If you're using, say, rainwater - you might also want a 5 micron prefilter (before the 1 micron prefilter). This is just the way filters are (except, maybe "slow sand filters").It's really remarkable how crystal clear roof-water I collect becomes after filtering through this filter. I have a multi-stage filter: 5 micron, then 1 micron, followed by this filter. Even though this filter is rated about 1 micron, it removes virtually everything. This filter is easy to scrub clean and put back in service. When it clogs - you take it out and scrub it with a brush - this will remove some of the outside of the ceramic - but you can do it 20 times or more. That's the only downside - you have to clean it periodically. The rainwater coming through a 1 micron standard filter appeared clear to the naked eye in a drinking glass, but when you shine a laser through it, you can see it's still *slightly* cloudy - the shaft of the laser can be seen faintly. After running that water it through this filter, it's perfectly clear. (!!!) The shaft of the laser is invisible. Of course, the water runs much slower through this filter than a standard sediment filter. But that is the nature of water filtration. Even a commercial RO unit takes hours to make very much water.
