I bought these knee guards for a kid riding downhill trails at a lift-assisted mountain resort. The nice part about these is that they cover the knee and part of the shin. Why is that nice? Because riding bumpy trails can sometimes lead to pedals hitting shins and legs, and since many newer MTB pedals feature traction pins, it's good to have protection against them, as well as all the other trail hazards (rocks, roots, wood planks, other bike parts).The knee guards are easy to put on, an the velcro in the back makes it easier to adjust the fit. They were comfortable for several days riding on trails. The only nitpick was that they got warm when riding single-track and cross-country trails which required more pedaling and fewer gravity drops. If you ride mostly XC and don't do downhill trails, these may be bulkier than necessary. But, for a do-it-all set, these most of your kid's riding needs.

Bought as a birthday present for my Son, but when he opened it only contained 1 knee guard, which was not clear in the purchase description or I would never have bought the item? Really disappointing given the cost, and one very upset boy!
