I received this item free as an Amazon Vine reviewer and this is my honest review. I only review items I will actually use, and use I do, prior to writing a review.I will start by saying I am a big fan of the Greenworks cordless tools and own a number of them. I am also an avid woodworking buff. I have also never owned, or used, a cordless sander so I have nothing to compare this unit to directly, but for my corded sanders. But these are my impressions. As I mentioned I own a number of other Greenworks 24V cordless tools, so I have plenty of experience with the batteries and chargers. All the batteries interchange, which I really like. I also like that each battery has a built-in power level indicator. This is very handy if you are checking to see what batteries are good and what need charged. As I do with all my cordless tools, I completely charged this battery overnight before using. My first impression is this is a bit on the bigger side (pictured). With the battery installed it is much larger than a corded unit, but I would expect that and am just making on observation. I like the built-in dust collector bag, that works pretty good (pictured). What I don’t like is how it installs. There is a round extension just below the battery that the bag assembly slides onto. It “seals” on with a big rubber O-ring (pictured). But to get it on you really have to mash and twist the bag assembly. To remove the bag, you rally have to tug and twist the bag assembly until it finally pops off, often very unexpectedly and with sawdust flying. It is a poor design and a real pain in the rear to use.But how does it work? Well, except for the dust bag design, it works well. I like this finishing sander design because the “iron” style sanding pads let you get into the tight areas an orbital or quarter sheet sander will just not reach. Though larger than a corded unit, this sander is comfortable to hold onto and has a nicely contoured rubber grip. I was able to work on a rifle stock (pictured) for a good 20-30 minutes with little fatigue. Will this replace my corded sanders? No, but it is not designed to in my opinion. However, this sander will find a use for those quick jobs where dragging out a cord would be a pain or where getting power would just not be possible. As I do at the end of all my reviews, I ask myself if I would actually purchase this item. Yes, I would. For the build quality, interchangeable batteries with other Greenworks tools and convenience I would buy this sander.

Picture shows my portable HEPA vacuum attached to the sander.I ran the sander over the plywood surface of my shop table for about 30 seconds with the dust bag attachment. It worked well enough but was already beginning to clog up after sanding about four square feet. I hooked up my vacuum and did the rest of the table in maybe ten minutes of work time. I didn't notice any stray dust and the inside of the sander was pretty clean. The battery was still showing two of three green lights and a voltage or 23.6 of an initial 24-volt charge. Good for a two AH battery. Probably still better than 50% of available power.Clearly, the tiny dust bag is not very useful, but with a dust collection hookup the sander could probably sand a smallish project on one battery charge. If you have more batteries this would be a good addition to a DIY or home shop.Recommended for light or occasional use. Price has dropped recently, but still seems a bit on the high side.

As a home woodworker and DIYer I like these type of hybrid sanders for finishing the inside of drawers/boxes or other projects where I need to get right up to the edges of the 90 degree corners. For me round orbital sanders just don’t do as good of a job finishing those edges, since only a very small portion of round sandpaper hits that inside corner. The sanding sheet on this sander has better and longer contact with those inside edges and finishing is much quicker.I have a similar type of sander by Festool, but it’s corded. Unfortunately, the sanding sheets for this GreenWorks sander (6” x 4 1/8”) are a little larger than my other sander. The GreenWorks dust port is just the right size to fit inside my Festool vacuum hose. The Greenworks dust port has an outside diameter of ~1.118” and an inside diameter of ~0.898.The sander with battery felt fairly heavy and it weighed 43.313 oz (or 2 lbs 11.313 oz). Without the battery, which is pretty useless, it weighs 27.852 oz (or 1 lb 11.852 oz). This sander has only one speed, 11,000 RPM. Some of my other sanders have multiple speeds, but I normally have it set to the maximum or close to it. Therefore, one speed is fine for me and it costs less to have only one speed. The sander feels good in the hand while in use. My index finger is poised very close to the on/off switch making it very convenient. The black portions of the sander are rubberized and provide a better grip.Overall it’s a good cordless sander. That being said, it’s not as good as my Festool, but it’s multiple times cheaper too. Plus, if you have other GreenWorks tools, the batteries are interchangeable.
