This is an LCD tablet/ book reader. It is not exactly a digital ink reader. For me it is better than using a normal tablet which emits blue. The build quality is fantastic and this device is really light. Obviously it is difficult to read in a dark room as it does not have any backlight like classic tablets and e ink readers. The colors are quite nice and on the cooler side. If you do a lot of reading in the sun or outdoors on a cloudy day the hannspree RLCD tablet is very nice to use. It installs the software really fast. I installed the Kindle and Kobo app and use it to read books outdoors. It did not cause any eyestrain after over an hour of reading unlike the ipads I have. Comparing it to the Boox, Kobo and Kindle also there is no ghosting or flicker when changing pages or images. Again the build quality of this device really stands out. Some possible issues with the device are that its WIFI reception is a bit weak and the battery discharges quickly. Then this device is not so good to read from under artificial lighting. These issues are not a problem for me as I will try to use it outside in natural sunlight. This tablet is really thin and of top quality making it stand out. I really like it!!!

My daughter is sensitive to most screens and needed a screen without a backlight. The ghosting on e-ink displays bothers her, so we landed on this tablet for things like video calls. If you need a screen like this, without ghosting, it's currently the best thing available. The colors are clear (especially outdoors), though the white is more like translucent silver. Our use case is indoors, and it is also quite usable indoors next to a window, as long as you angle it halfway between your eyes and a window or light source. Despite the matte finish, glare can be a problem since you are pointing at a light source, but usually there is some angle that is both bright and without glare. (For video calls, you also need to point the camera at yourself and make sure you are well lit, but with trial error you can fulfill all these conditions.) As long as you aren't expecting the brightness of a standard LCD, it seems sufficient to watch videos and do work. If based on the screen's usefulness, I would give 4 stars. But other aspects are a bit disappointing, for which I give only 3 stars. In particular, the battery life is poor: It can hardly make it through an hour-long Zoom call on a single charge. (I use a battery pack to supplement and make sure it doesn't die during the call.) The WiFi connection strength is also very poor. In order maintain connection, I have to hook up a Wifi repeater within the same room (approx. 5m), or else signal isn't strong enough.Because we needed this specific screen technology, we are willing to put up with the deficiencies, but the general public might wish to wait for something more refined, possibly with front light, better network connectivity, and better battery.I have been waiting for an Android tablet I can use on my balcony or other brightly lit environments. There are some 10-inch color e-ink tablets from Onyx for example, but they cost around 500 euros. The HannsNote2 arrived in exactly 2 weeks (faster than predicted). This review is based on 1 week of use. What I like:- Very thin and light (about half the weight of a backlit Android tablet);- Build quality is excellent;- The screen is sharp and visible in bright light, responsive, and pleasant to the touch;- Although the processor is very weak, it still boots in 1 minute and works with minimal lag - much faster than my Samsung Galaxy Tab A8, for example;- Works well with the cheap USI 2.0 stylus I purchased; What could be better:- Wifi reception is weaker than any of the other devices I have;- The tablet comes without a case/sleeve (and none are available currently); you also need to purchase a stylus separately;- The speaker is quiet and poor quality;- Battery life is rather short, around 3 hours of continuous use.I gave it 4 stars because of those weaknesses, but it exceeded my expectations in terms of responsiveness and build quality, and the price is much lower than similar devices on the market.DO NOT buy this tablet if you plan to use it indoors without a lot of ambient light. If you want something that works indoors and also outdoors, better wait for the version with a built-in frontlight.

I feel very sympathetic to the creators of this product, but it's really unusable indoors, unless you have a very good, bright *and* even light source. If you plan to use it only outdoors, it's probably the best.

I knew what I was getting into when I ordered this. It’s low powered and needs suitable bright but diffuse lighting conditions to get the best out of it but it’s a fair device for reading and note taking outside and it’s extremely thin and light. I also ordered a USI 2.0 stylus which works nicely.
