4 ports, each 2.5 GbE. These works fine in Linux, and hence in Proxmox. I have two of these cards running behind a pfSense virtualized router, and haven't noticed any performance or heat problems. Do make sure you have ventilation for the card, but I haven't noticed this card running especially hot. 2.5 GbE is the new 1 GbE in 2025, and should be the minimum now for household networks, especially if you want to take advantage of the new higher WiFi speeds. It's a good add-on to an existing desktop that might hold you off from replacing it for another year or two. With four ports, you could also forgo a router, and wire point to point if that meets your requirements.

M.2 10GB NIC, this is exactly what I needed in my homelab. I have a Mini-PC that acts as my Proxmox host, and my NAS holds all my virtual machines. over a standard 1GB connection, the response time on the VM's was pretty awful. The solution: I pulled the NVMe Drive, installed this in its place, and re-loaded the OS on a SATA SSD. Now all my VM's are much more responsive. If the pictures make you think the braded cable is fragile, then you would be right. Handle with care! Only reason this is 4 stars and not 5 is the braded cable makes me nervous and for the price they could have engineered something more robust in my opinion. Otherwise, perfect product.

I have a Dell T630 tower server running ProxMox. The NIC worked with OS native drivers - no custom driver installation was required. All I had to do was edit the /etc/network/interfaces file and now all the interfaces are available for use by guest VMs.

I was concerned that the small fan on the card would be loud.I cannot even hear it in my OPNsense firewall situated in my Livingroom.

I got this for a Netgate rack-mount 7100. It works great and I didn't have any issues. Note: I got the SY one as the other 4 port 2.5g Ethernet port doesn't play nice with FreeBSD. My singular complaint is the fan. The three rackmount fans in the router/switch that have a reputation for being loud combined are still quieter than this fan. It also has a really annoying whine/vibration. If I were to go back and do it again, I'd just get a 4 port 10gb card as many are fanless.
