These hiking trainers are partly made of suede leather, but only in small areas. There is some suede in a band around the toe and a thin strip of suede around the heel. The rest and the majority of the shoe is made of a strong woven artificial fabric, with waterproof ‘hydroguard’ treatment and various types of rubber and plastic, located in both the uppers and the soles. Altogether a mixture of materials. A commando type tread to the rubber soles gives good adhesion over rocky terrain.Inside, the uppers have foam padding, which fits the foot very snuggly. The shoes feel warm and very comfortable. The soles have only the thinnest possible padding, just enough to cushion the shock of the foot on stony ground, adequate without being generous. The exterior sole is made of a very tough rubber which should last a long time before showing wear and tear. The overall impression is that these trainers are manufactured to a high standard and are well designed to withstand a day’s length of hiking over rough terrain, yet quite light-weight and not as heavy as full boots. The sole is slightly flared out and is a little larger in area than the uppers, which makes it easier to retain one’s balance and foothold when walking on uneven ground. The heel end is exaggeratedly raised to prevent the shoe slipping off. The sides are somewhat cut-away, allowing more cooling air to enter the shoe. Getting them undone and taken off at the end of the walk was surprisingly easy. That may be a problem over time as they may tend to slip off while walking? Not sure about that.I found the trainers fitted perfectly and closely upon first wearing them and they did not require any running in. I was impressed by the natural fit and warmth without inner condensation developing. Wearing them all day, there was no sign of dampness due to perspiration… quite impressive. Testing them in a puddle, they seemed to be reasonably waterproof, which is essential for a long day’s hike in endless rain. There are a couple of sewn-in tabs to enable you to hang them up to dry on a hook at night. The laces look strong enough to last for several years. Overall…. impressive and fit for purpose.

Excellent walking shoes. These trainers are true to size and fit as expected, they are a reasonably wide fitting allowing room for your toes to move freely without being loose.Having worn these now for several lengthy periods on different types of terrain I can honestly say that they are very comfortable, don’t cause your feet to overheat and give a good, firm grip in even when walking on shale or gravel.One of my ankles did start to rub very slightly but I expect this not to happen once the trainers are fully broken in (I tend to walk a little unevenly on that leg due to a hip injury), also when walking indoors on laminate flooring the soles did squeek but in all fairness these are not supposed to be indoors footwear.Hopefully these will last a good length of time, they certainly appear to be well made and, at the current price, are a good deal less expensive than some similar shoes that I have purchased.

These trainers are good value for money in the standard mens sizes at £44.99. although not sure why the smaller sizes are £69.99 for the same trainers.They are a little on the large size as I ordered a 10 to fit and they feel almost as big as an 11. Fit ok with very thick socks.Otherwise generally nice and comfortable and have been ideal so far for walking my dog along the beach without worrying too much that I will ruin them given the price.

I usually hike in boots, but was looking for something lighter-weight for less demanding walks - and these looked like just the ticket.First, don't be fooled by the "real leather suede" talk in the description: the only suede on these is a small section at the toe end and a strip at the heel, everything else is plastic and rubber. The sole is strangely flared out, which at least provides a slight increase in gripping surface, and the supplied laces are strangely elasticated.The fit, for me at least, is somewhat loose - my heel slips up and down a little, and there's no way to adjust the laces to prevent it. Better insoles helped: the "memory foam" ones supplied are a little on the thin side and provide no arch support, but are at least pleasantly cushioned.Given that they're half the price of brand-name walking trainers, though, it's easy to overlook these. For the money, you'll struggle to find a pair of shoes any better - and the manufacturer even promises that the waterproofing layer is breathable, though we've not had a hot enough day to really put that to the test.One word of caution: if you're buying a pair to try on for size, keep the tags attached: the manufacturer won't accept returns once they're removed!
