I got this because I thought I could use it with the Kuretake watercolors that I love so much. I assumed that the ink was waterproof because of the watercolors the company is famous for, but it is not.So how well does it work for sketching and writing? Well, not so great as it turns out - at least not for me.(As a disclaimer, I want to note that I am really particular when it comes to pens as far as how they feel in my hand as well as how well they perform.)The biggest problem I have with this pen is in the barrel design. It looks nice, but that only goes so far. The refill is exposed up to the part where it screws into the barrel, which is exactly where I like to hold a pen (about an inch and a half or so up from the tip), so holding it is awkward and not comfortable to hold for very long. That makes sketching, or anything other than signing my name, something that I would not choose this pen for for long. I was surprised by this because the thoughtful design behind Kuretake watercolors is why I love them so much, and it is very much lacking with this pen.It's too bad because the pros - the extra fine point, the smoothness of the feel when using it, the availability of refills, and the stylish selection of barrel colors - otherwise make this a very attractive pen.I look forward to a waterproof refill and perhaps a barrel design that's more comfortable to hold. Until then, this pens as attractive as it is, is unfortunately not going to be the first one I grab.

I really like this pen and I do love the Kuretake Zig brand, they make very nice pens.It’s comfortable to hold and the tip is very nice. It is a firm brush tip than can make pretty thin lines. It is good for drawing and handwriting. It was kinda expensive at the time I got it, about $17. I saw these pens for cheaper elsewhere, but not with refills. This pen comes with a refill. I think the refill is interesting because it also comes with a tip. So maybe these type of tips wear out?The back of the refill sticks out of the back of the pen when the pen cap is closed, so that’s a little different, but it works.

I got this pen in smoky olive color and I absolutely adore this shade. The outer body of the pen can be swapped as well, which is very convenient.The brush tip was easy to use and the ink flowed very smoothly. I didn't experience any skipping or leaking of the ink and it didn't bleed through standard copy paper. I'm very pleased with the quality of the kuretake pen and will likely get more in the future as gifts.

The most interesting feature of this pen from the Kuretake Zig lineup is that the refill and replacement brush tip comes as a single unit. These pens are designed to be modular and customizable where you choose your pen body colors and can interchange caps and bodies between individual pens - and combine that with your choice of ink color/pen nib assembly.This particular configuration with the fine point felt lightly flexible brush style tip, and black ink is an excellent drawing pen that gives a rich dark line with a lot of control yet plenty of ability to vary the line weight. It’s really quite lovely and makes a fantastic every day carry sketch pen.The current price point of around $19 for the pen and refill set is a bit high compared to bricks and mortar pricing, but it’s also not that easy to find it in a lot of other places so I think the price is actually pretty fair. And it definitely delivers $19 worth of drawing pleasure, especially with the included refill.It’s a very attractive pen, feels good to hold, and makes extremely pretty lines. I like it a lot!

4-5 years ago I purchased a Cocoiro that I really wanted to love, but just couldn't. The ink leaked everywhere even when I purchased a refill, and the shell of the pen was loose and shoddily constructed. Oh, how things have changed! It has the same great nib that allows for a variety of line widths. No leaks so far, and the exterior components fit securely and feel solid in the hand. The tail end of the ink cartridge is visible from the exterior, which means you can tell which color of ink is in the pen at a glance without having to pull off the cap. Artists, note that this ink dissolves easily with the slightest hint of moisture, so if you're doing watercolor or sketching en plein air, maybe choose a different pen.
