Its pairing with Kestrel is where the 2800.com shines. It quickly and easily connects to my kestrel and when ranging it doesn't let branches and tall grass interfere with the primary target unlike my Sig Kilo. I really like the two way communication between the 2800 and kestrel, but I found that the rangemaster has to be within two feet of the Kestrel to work. The 2800.com functionality as a stand alone range finder is a little clunky. You can quickly see that the ballistics application was not designed by long range shooters. As a stand alone range finder I prefer my Sig Kilo for its simplicity but like the connectivity capability of the Leica 2800.com Rangemaster.

I had high hopes. This Leica laser rangefinder was recommended by someone I know. Although it was more expensive than what I wanted to spend it did have some key features on paper I was looking for; a fast, strong, and accurate laser.Ordered it, got it in a couple days, unboxed, and tested it out.The laser was fast. It was spitting out readings almost instantly out to 500 yards with ease. The display is hard to read though on sunny days. Really hard. It was taking me longer to decipher the reading than it was taking the laser to produce the reading. All the digital readings and targeting retinal in the display had a ghost image above them that seemed to split the available brightness of the reading in the display in half when looking strait through the eyepiece. I figured it was just a matter of the eyepiece needing to be refocused; this didn’t resolve the issue. Tried again, didn’t resolve. Took the battery out, put it back in. Didn’t fix it. After moving the unit around while looking through it I noticed that if you tilt the unit in such a way that your eye is at the very top of the eyepiece and you are looking down through the eyepiece at an angle you can get the ghosting to correct itself. The problem then is that your complete field of view through the eyepiece is compromised so that you lose everything over the top of the targeting retinal through the viewfinder. You only get half the picture.Furthermore, I was running into issues that are consistent with the laser being out of alignment. I was ranging between objects that were 66 and 524 yards. I wasn’t able to pick out the 524 yard object until I moved that object to the very outside bottom right edge of the targeting retinal. The rest of the targeting retinal was completely clear of all objects, just blue sky, and it wasn’t picking it up until I moved it to the bottom right corner along the outside edge.IMO these issues are not consistent with a unit that is functioning correctly.I repackaged the rangefinder and started a return the same day I received and tested it. I took it to the UPS store. It took them 12 days to get it back to the Amazon return location in Nevada. Amazon has had it in their possession for 4 days now and still haven’t issued a return. Disappointed in how Amazon has handled this return thus far.

Bought this to communicate with my 4DOF Kestrel. Works great with two way communication. Shoot the distance and the Kestrel shows the dope and so does the rangefinder. Love it.

This is almost 5 stars. For me and for the Kestrel use case it would be if a couple things were fixed so that the bluetooth Kestrel integration was more reliable. When this works it's awesome. That was my primary reason for buying the 2800 and if that is also your primary reason you might give a pause about this and do some investigation. The big problem seems to be when the 2800 goes to sleep. And it goes to sleep fast. When you wake it up it does not reconnect with the Kestrel to send and retrieve ballistics information. Sometimes it kinda half connects. It'll send the data and the range etc. does get updated on the Kestrel but the firing solution doesn't make it back to the 2800. Other times they just completely don't talk. It's relatively easy to go into the Kestrel and "force" the connect back. That's pretty annoying given how fast the 2800 will go to sleep.I have also been completely unsuccessful at getting the 2800 to connect to the "Leica Hunting App" on my iPhone in 'app' mode. So not thrilled about that either. Can't apply any firmware updates to see if this has been fixed. So -2 stars.Otherwise for the money it's a pretty good LRF on it's own so it is really these issues affecting the Kestrel integration and the reason I bought it that cause it to get a lower rating from me.
