Getting this small Geiger counter introduced me to a new problem. Where do you test a Geiger counter? I tried my granite countertops, but did not see a noticeably increase. I was left wondering if that was a myth, or if the Geiger counter was no good. Then a friend told me about green glass. Old west green glass was made with radioactive material. My friend told me about an antique store near me that had green glass, so I took this little Geiger counter over. It works! It definitely detected an increase when I put it next to the display case that was full of green glass.I knocked off a star because the counter is not fast to respond, and had an ambient reading on it that it picked up everywhere. Be patient though, and it works. It's a nice build. It doesn't feel cheep, but is nicely made.Overall, if you're looking for a fun tool to measure radiation, I think this will work perfectly for you. If you're working in a nuclear facility and need to do accurate measurements, I don't know if this is what you need.I would recommend.

I was surprised when this was listed for sale on Amazon. They truly do sell everything! I decided to order it just to see how it worked, and who knows? It couldn't hurt to see if there is any nuclear radiation around me that I wasn't aware of. We do live fairly close to the Perry Nuclear Power Plant.According to this device, my family has nothing to worry about, which is nice. I tested it next to a running microwave oven, with no noticeable spikes in radiation. I guess that means our appliances are working correctly,I actually lent it to a friend that was concerned that his family was being exposed to some kind of radiation. Everything he tested was a-ok.If you are looking for peace of mind, this device can alleviate any fears you have of radiation exposure to you, your family, or friends.

I bought this portable radiation meter because I like to survey and check out old mine dumps that are abandoned. Knowing that I am in the southwest looking for minerals, it is definitely something essential to have with me.

I've wanted a Geiger counter for years and for nothing more than to be aware of the ambient radiation in and around my house. The LifeBasis Geiger Counter Nuclear Radiation Detector is lightweight and fits easily in a pocket. It comes with a USB-A to USB-C charging cable and a strap. A charging adapter is not included so you must supply your own. This was not an issue for me as I have accumulated several over the years.I am unable to vouch for the accuracy as I don't have another calibrated radiation detector to compare it with. However, the device is clearly detecting radiation. According to the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, most individuals in the US typically receive an average daily dose of .62 REM or 6,200 micro sieverts (µSv) with about half of that coming from natural sources. Inside my house the dose rate detected by the LifeBasis detector ranges from .06 µSv per hours to .15 µSv per hour with an average dose rate of .11 µSv per hour. Over a 48 hour period the LifeBasis Geiger counter detected a total dose of 5.21 µSv for an average daily dose of 2.61 µSv. At a recent visit to an Orthopedic practice, I measured an ambient rate of .06 µSv with a spike of .22 µSv per hour at one point. Battery life is very good. I've had the detector constantly turned on for over two days with the battery indicator still registering nearly fully charged. The display is easy to read. I found the menu system to be unintuitive and not user friendly. All in all, this is a reasonably priced functional radiation detector. The measured radiation rates I observed are certainly within norms and provide a relative indication of personal radiation exposure. If I have an opportunity to check this device against a calibrated radiation detector, I will update this review.
