I had to change the insoles to make them more comfortable under the ball of my feet but otherwise they fit good.Good quality and excellent support for off-trail travel.I like the leather lining; no blisters.I wear them for work (size 10.5) in the bush but the Tibet GTX WXL (size 10) fit me better and I prefer those for hunting and hiking when I cover many miles in a day. Both are very sturdy for off-trail travel and both are good quality.I've worn these everyday at work (in the forest) for a few weeks now and I'm happy with their support and quality.I have highly recommended these for friends with regular width feet and the Tibet GTX WXL-Wide for wider feet.I a perfect world these (the LL) would come in a wide model. They're both somewhat expensive but they're both good quality and I expect they'll last for years.

This is my second pair of Lowa's. My first pair lasted just shy of 10 years. I backpack, hike, camp, and work outdoors a lot. I wear them all winter (in Buffalo) both in the city and out in the woods. So it goes without saying that I am not easy on my boots. I was so impressed with my old par in terms of comfort, water-proofness, and quality of construction, that I wasn't willing to compromise on my new pair. I looked around at other brands before buying this new pair, but found it very difficult to find much that compared in quality. My requirements were - all leather upper and inner, NOT made in China, waterproof, designed for backpacking and hiking, and constructed well enough to last 10 year in regular-heavy use. I have only had these boots for about a month, but so far have worn them hiking and hunting (in the snow and mud), and have loved them. They are build with the same quality of construction as my old Lowa's, but have some updated features that I like even more - higher rubber seal, locking lace cleats at top of foot, floating ankle lace hooks, and a lace "t" on the tongue that hold it in place. I love the glove leather inner lining (old ones had it too) I find it very comfortable, breathable enough, and MUCH more durable than fabric type linings. The one major difference between my old pair and these is that these have a nu-buck leather upper, as compared to a full-grain on my old pair. My old pair was stiffer, giving it a long break in period, but felt sturdier. I was concerned at first that these wouldn't have the same support and "bullet-proofness," but after hiking and hunting in them, I am happy with the ankle support and waterproof/toughness of the material. The only difference I can find is that these were comfortable right out of the box without needing a year of blisters before they were broken in!In my search for a pair of boots that I can count on for another 10 years, I found one other brand that seemed to fit the bill, and that is Alico. Alico is made in Italy, all leather, extremely high quality materials and construction, and not as expensive as the Lowa's. I decided to keep the Lowa's because the Alico's I looked at were designed a little bit more for backpacking specifically (MUCH stiffer, and didn't have the rubber seal/protection around bottom edge of foot.) The Alico's, although were less money and very high quality, would take about a year to break in, and didn't have as many features that fit my mixed-use requierments as the Lowa's. I almost wish I could afford to buy both and switch them up, both are examples of some of the highest quality boots available.

First let me thank Amazon. I tried to find this boot in my local stores but no one carried them. Also, with Amazon, I was able to order a size 12 and 13 to find the perfect fit. I kept the size 13 and returned the 12. Return shipping was free. Even if my local stores carried this boot, it is unlikely that they would have my size. In the past I've "settled" for the size they had, convincing myself if was the best fit. No a good plan. Now for the boot review. The quality is the best. No issues at all. The fit and comfort are perfect. I have taken two, four, and six mile hikes in this boot with no blisters or heel slippage. Recovering from an Achilles tendon injury, I was worried that a high top boot would irritate the tendon but that has not occurred. I believe the boot's flexibility is the primary reason. Again, no heel slippage or rubbing. This is a leather lined boot--no Gore-Tex--but my feet have remained dry. Now, I have not been in drenching rains, but past experience with other full leather boots give me confidence that my feet will stay dry in the wettest conditions. The boots are heavy compared to non leather boots, but they don't feel heavy when hiking. That's just my assessment, but I believe the comfort and support more than compensate for the weight.

Size: I ordered these boots a half size too large to accommodate the heavy backpacking socks I intended to wear with them, and to leave myself some toe room for the rough descents. This may seem counter-intuitive, but ground temperatures in the desert can reach 140 degrees. Thick socks provide the necessary insulation and padding that the environment demands. The boots are true to size; with heavy socks and 3rd-party insoles, fit like a glove.Weight: These weigh in at a startling 4.2 pounds, but after the first day of use, the weight was the furthest thing from my mind.Construction: Breathable, ventilated upper, leather with leather lining. Vibram sole with high rand. Built like a tank, rugged, solid, stiff.Comfort: Comfortable to wear all day.The Lowa Tibet LL boots are heavy backpacking boots, suited (and intended) for arid environments and pack loads in excess of 50 pounds. There are many features that you don’t find on most products on the shelf.Leather LinedThe Tibet LL is a leather-lined boot. This has numerous advantages over other types of linings, but there are two biggies. The first is that blisters are much less likely to occur because any sliding within the foot pocket will happen between your sock and the leather lining, not between your foot and your sock. If you’re used to wearing liner socks with your hiking and backpacking boots, you can safely leave them home because the boot itself is performing this task already. The second advantage is that leather has fewer natural crevices in which bacteria can linger, and so keeping them clean and fresh is much easier, even with near-constant use. This is further assisted by the excellent ventilation system that moves air through the boots to keep your feet dry and bacteria at bay. With good wicking socks (like Merino wool) and mid-day sock changes, your feet will stay dry and comfortable.Tongue StudAt the top center of the tongue is a metal stud, around which you criss-cross the laces. This lateral pull in opposing directions prevents the tongue from straying left or right, so the gusset doesn’t bunch. The stud also seemed very stable, and did not appear to twist or torque even when I cranked on the laces prior to a descent. The tongue itself is formed to fit around your shin and is comfortably padded, especially around the top.Locking EyeletsOne of the features that I really like is the pair of locking eyelets on each boot. As you’re lacing up your boots, the tension on the laces causes the locking eyelets to close. Once the lace is trapped, it will remain in that position until you've unlocked the eyelets. On boots without this feature, the lower laces tend to slacken (even if slightly) if the tension on the laces is decreased. The locks are very secure; you have to deliberately unlock the laces in order to get the boots off. A slightly exaggerated lip on the top of the eyelet allows you to easily flip the locks upward with your thumbs, freeing the laces to move again.Ball Bearing EyeletsWithin both pairs of lower eyelets are ball bearings that greatly reduce the friction between the lace and the eyelet, promoting longer life of the laces. The smooth action helps to ensure even tension, lessening the possibility that you’ll wind up with one lace significantly longer than the other after a few months of use.Full Vibram RandAlthough these boots are not waterproof, they have a full rand that will allow you to walk through shallow water and mud without concern. The high rand also protects the leather upper from scuffs, scrapes, and gouges from rough, rocky trails. The deep lugs and Vibram soles make for sure footing on uneven, loose terrain. No matter how rocky the surface, you won’t feel any jagged points through the soles of your feet. The boots absorb all the punishment, making long days of backpacking across mountains of rubble feel like a casual stroll. Whether you’re on a well-maintained trail or bushwhacking through the worst of it, your feet will be comfortable.Summary:Lowa's Tibet LL boots exceeded my every expectation, easily handled all the terrain I could find, and had plenty more to give. After five weeks and over a thousand miles of abuse, they still look almost new. Although they are on the expensive side, these boots are a solid investment because I am confident that I will still be wearing them 15 years from now. When I think about all the pairs of hiking boots I've managed to destroy, it occurs to me that I've spent thousands of dollars on thoroughly inferior footwear. It’s easy to be lured into the false economy of cheaper boots when you’re staring at price tags, but what really matters is that you’re getting comfortable, durable boots that you won’t need to replace any time soon.
