I got it for my sister who has wanted to learn for a lot time. The sound is really nice. It is a real instrument, not just some slapped together glorified toy uke. I ordered a similar kit from Sawtooth before I got this one and it was garbage. The Mahalo is a nice uke. My sister loves the lesson download worth Ukulele Bart, she says it's really a good lesson and Bart is adorable.For brand new beginners: It came totally untuned. When you first tune strings they have to stretch and settle and, until the do, they keep going out of tune. To get it to stay in tune I tuned all the strings really, really sharp to stretch the strings. I kept coming back to it a couple times a day for a couple days to re-tune and see how well it held the tune. After a couple days it held fine. So don't be frustrated or disappointed if you tune it but then can't play it. It'll be fine.
