I had the chance to use this mount base on my portable fish finder box with my Garmin Striker 5 Plus, and I was happy to see that the mounting holes lined up perfectly! Once dialed in, the mount stays securely in place, providing a stable setup for my fish finder. My one gripe with this base is that it relies on a single adjustment screw to control two ball head joints. This makes fine-tuning a bit tricky, as you have to fiddle with it to get the perfect angle. If it had two separate adjustment screws, it would be a flawless design.Additionally, while it holds my fish finder well, I suspect it might struggle with larger fish finders; potential slippage of the ball joints seems likely under heavier loads. That said, for smaller fish finders, it works really well and is a solid, budget-friendly option.

What impressed me when I first saw this device is its ruggedness. The lower plate mounted on a vessel (or a vehicle, or wherever you’d like) is connected to a rectangular one with many holes provided to attach different devices with a two-balls-and-clamp mechanism, sometimes referred to as “magic arm; while in the most of similar gadgets I have seen the balls are about 1/2 or 3/4 inch in diameter, these are about an inch and a half. The plates are also sturdy plastic. Talking about heavy duty.This mount base is primarily intended for lighter Garmin GPSMAP devices and fish finders – though it is versatile enough to be applied to just about anything that needs sturdy and adjustable base. Within the multitude of the holes provided on the upper plate, you’ll likely find some that would fit any needs – and if not, drilling a couple more is always an option. For something this rugged and versatile, the price is quite reasonable.Unsurprisingly, the four outermost holes fit my Garmin device. I had already made an adapter to attach that device to the boat – this base would add some flexibility to it; I am also thinking of using it to mount additional instruments instead. I’ve used Garmin software which projects the device’s screen to a tablet, allowing it to be monitored from more than one place; mounting a tablet on this base would be a great option.Some pictures of potential use (combined with a tablet frame from .Highly recommended!

Seems OK so farIt did not have the holes to line up with my hummingbird fishfinder so I had to drill other holes
