I'm just starting to build out my landscape filter set, so I was glad to see this and ordered it. These landscape 100mm filters and holders can be very pricey, so I was glad to see Neewer had stepped up and offered their own line. I found this filter on my Canon R5 to be very good, I noticed no loss in "sharpness" and no distortions across the frame. There was a bit of a colorcast, but since in landscape I am often changing the saturation anyway, which also introduces color casts which need correcting, I wasn't bothered by this filters slight cast. It came packaged in a very good case and with a microfiber cloth. All in all a good bargain for what you are getting and since I don't make my living from landscape photos, this is perfect for my needs.

I've started to warm up to square filters and for that NEEWER deserves all the credit. I definitely understand their benefits--for one, they're more versatile as they can be used with multiple lenses unlike circular filters which are made for specific lens diameters. I've also read about their advantages during the photographic process--better to stack, easier to change, higher quality, etc. Given my primary need for photo equipment is content creation, the versatility argument is the most compelling IMO since it also means that you don't have to buy what is essentially the same filter multiple times for different lenses. If you have a matte box or filter frame, you can swap filters between any number of lens size/types.Which brings us to this NEEWER ND8 filter. Generally speaking, I'm a big fan of NEEWER products. Not sure about their vibe among more specialized photographers, but for what I use them for they're excellent. They offer decent quality and functionality at a reasonable price point. That's what we've got here as well. I did some quick comparison shopping and it looks as if this filter is at the low to midrange of the market in terms of price.I've got several of the circular NEEWER ND filters, and this one performed equally as well. Not really surprised given my experience with NEEWER. I did find the square filters easier to use now than I did when I first tried them several years ago. Given the nice balance between quality and price, NEEWER is winner for filters no matter the shape. Highly recommended!!

NEEWER 100 x 100mm ND8 Square ND FilterA neutral density filter blocks light to the degree specified. This is a ND8 or 1 stop filter. It reduces incoming light so you’re shooting at a more favorable shutter speed for the job at hand, you typically see these used by wedding and portrait photographers. There are numerous other uses like taking the reflections off waves and blurring streams and waterfalls. This is considered the most preferred filter for pro photographers.Operation: This is a 100MM square glass filter. To attach to your lens, you need a rectangular filter holder for 100MM filter size and a ring. A step up or down ring is used to adapt the diameter of your lens. For example, if your lens uses 72MM filters. You purchase an adapter ring to go from your lenses 72MM up to the 100MM size. Now for the filter holder, A rectangular shaped piece of tough plastic with grooves that let you slide in a filter or mix multiple filters for different effects. Many companies offer both rings and filter holders for sale on Amazon including NEWER and LEE.Quality: This is an optical glass product with multiple layers of coatings to reduce glare and ghosting. They are water repellant and are easy to wipe up any fingerprints without damaging the lens. To help avoid smudges always handle by the edges and return to the supplied case when not in use.I found this to be a high-quality product and use rectangular filters regularly in my landscape photography. I also use smaller versions on my drones. This newer filter is an excellent value

When I got this, I was a bit skeptical because a few years ago Neewer was known for inexpensive and good, but not great, photography gear. You might start with Neewer but eventually you'd move up to a better or more durable brand. Not any more! After testing and using this filter, color me surprised at how good it is.You can see the Neewer upped their game just by looking at the packaging. OK, it's not "Apple elegant" but it is nicely designed, well boxed, the filter is wrapped in a soft and lint-free material and the protective filter pouch is sturdy and has a magnetic clasp. Impressive.A lesser quality ND filter will suffer from several problems. 1) a color cast that can be difficult to remove in editing. 2) reduced sharpness (one more piece of glass in front of the lens). 3) getting dirty with fingerprints, etc. and 4) cheap coatings that start to wear or peel off after use. This Neewer ND filter had none of those problems.I set up a little scene and used a constant light set at 5100K, set my camera for 5100K (so it wouldn't auto correct for a color cast) and photographed the scene with no filter, with a Breakthrough Photography (what I consider the "gold standard" in ND filters) filter and the Neewer filter. Then I imported the photos and looked at them in Lightroom. I took a sample of the white surface in the same place for each shot and looked at the RGB values. I was stunned that the Neewer filter did so well! It was only off by a couple of points (No Filter: R 92.7 G 91.6 B 90.7 Neewer Filter: R 92.9 G 91.7 B 90.7). It was right up there with Breakthrough Photography filters having no descernable color cast! The exposure was off by a tenth of a stop (roughly a 5.9-stop instead of 6 stop ND) but that's not unusual for ND filters. And it's way easier to fix that in post processing than it is to fix a color cast.Using optical glass is important because of its clarity. I looked closely at items in the photos, especially the shell because it had a lot of detail, and i couldn't tell the difference in sharpness between no filter and Neewer. Impressive!Thanks to the nano coatings, fingerprints wiped off pretty easily and water beaded up and ran off. It's too early to tell how durable the coatings are but, so far, I'm pleasantly surprised by how good this is and it will definitely have a place in my camera bag from now on!
