Decent quality and durable plastic. Clear how to use and has a range of accessories suitable for children to handle but also suitable for adults to have a go with. Unsure about some ideas such as butterflies etc and I'd never harm insects intentionally either but for education and studying them this kit is useful. The magnifying glass seems to work quite well. Don't forget to let things out once you've had a look though! Or make a bug hotel and see if they stay around. Large box for what the item is and feels good quality so would make a decent present for an adventurous child and could encourage much more outside play and engagement with nature. I'm happy to give this 5 stars.

This insect catcher is designed with children's preferences in mind, with a colorful and cute appearance. Its overall shape is like a small space capsule. The transparent observation cabin is matched with a brightly colored frame and decorated with various cartoon patterns, which can instantly attract children's attention. When the child saw it for the first time, his eyes lit up and he couldn't wait to use it to catch insects. The handle of the insect catcher is designed to fit the child's hand very well, with moderate thickness and non-slip texture on the surface. The child can hold it comfortably and firmly in his hand without worrying about slipping during the insect catching process. The opening size of the observation cabin is also just right, which makes it convenient for children to put the insects in, while preventing the insects from escaping easily. The transparent observation cabin is a highlight of this insect catcher. After the child puts the caught insects into the observation cabin, he can observe the insects' morphology, movements and living habits 360 degrees without dead angles. It's like creating an exclusive microscopic world of insects for children, allowing them to have a deeper understanding of these small creatures. For example, when a child caught a seven-spotted ladybug, he clearly saw the number of spots on the ladybug’s back and the way its wings flapped through the observation cabin, and he excitedly shared his new discovery with me.

A nice set for observing bugs if your child is into it. However, the design of this set has its flaws:The ball and socket scope is just a scope, not a magnifier, and it is very stiff to move around even for me. I did pry it out a few times when tried to move it around. The background you get from the scope is the bottom of the box which is chequered. Which makes it quite difficult for lights to go through evenly, could have been better with a plain background. There is a catching net, some record cards for spotting insects, some plastic bugs for practice and a magnifier etc. It is a set for younger children that it will work, but could have been made better.
