Surprising for this age, the Panasonic 4kHD blu-ray player range actually goes up in steps so you don't have to pay stupid prices for outputs you'll never use. This mid range has all the outputs I need, unlike the cheaper one that has far fewer. Make sure to check what you need before you buy from this range! You could save. =)The player does what I need, plays as it should and has not let me down. The biggest drawback and reason for four star? It's what I call loud. (Might not be noticable to some people, or while watching movies through the day which I know many people will be doing. I watch things in a quiet room.) Not overwhelmingly so, but when you're in a quiet room using speakers, having it whirring at quiet points in the movie, which may be sensitive points, may take you out of the experience if you like to really get into a movie's story.

Believe me when I say this - the Panasonic DP-UB150 is THE very best affordable 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player on the market. This was the first player I bought for 4K viewing, and can confirm that is by far the best. Playback is both solid and reliable, so you can purchase with confidence. The player is nice and compact too. Remote is also of good size and quality, and always responsive.Playability is phenomenal. The picture & sound quality are second to none. Really quite impressive.I've tried and tested the model which come along after this one, and it wasn't a patch on the DP-UB150.Oh, and Panasonic 4K players beat Sony's efforts, hands down (my Sony 4K player barely lasted a month before it packed up working!).The Panasonic DP-UB150 is recommended 100% 👌Picture Quality ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️Sound ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️Overall rating ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Very happy with it but perhaps for the extra £40 I should have gone for the 450 model as it comes with an audio HDMI out as well and also a digital output connection as that would have been useful for the connection to the Alexa echo. There is a slight latency when it comes to the voices if using it via bluetooth and less so when using a toslink / mini toslink to the TV but it is still a little noticeable. Also does not come with Dolby Atmos etc. Anyway, the sound is still fine and I am happy with the TV sound or the the sound via the Alexa.Anyway found the initial setup a little messy with the 4K, it just blanked the screen and I thought, ho hum, this does not look good. Tried it with a blu ray disk and it was fine and also with a DVD. The quality of the images with the blu ray and the DVDs are fine. Trying a 4K disk, only got a few to try it out, and then it was fine and works and the pic on my 4K TV looks great.I doubt if I will buy a huge amount of 4 disks other than for those extra special films. Probably will stick to Blu Rays as the quality via the 4K still looks fine on my 40 inch 4K to my eyes anyway. The menus all seem to work well and swiftly and the blu rays fire up quickly (far quicker than my very unresponsive blu ray player from Sony)The manual was not great, wish they had added a little more detail to the booklet, really should go into some detail about the various things such as the sound settings, etc, perhaps referring to terms used by TVs as well as so there are so many settings on my Panasonic TV, who knows which ones are best for the 4K player.UPDATE 15th May 2024 - Has a tendency to try and start the disk but often does nothing. If the disk is already in there and has been read before it seems to be fine but putting a new disk in or starting it and then putting a new disk in, it can sometimes take two or three on / off at the plug for the player to actually play the blu-ray or 4K. Certainly not great. It is at the moment ok that I can still play the disks but I wonder if this will just increasingly get worse. It could be a firmware issue, always possible and I will have to download the latest one at some point (always a hassle in itself)

Got this for my partner as a Christmas present. Specifically got this one over the Sony as it will auto-detects HDR10 and Dolby Vision content, as opposed to having to go into the settings each time and specify what disc you have (which is what you have to do with the Sony player). It was a headache from the get go. Popped a 4k blu ray disc in, it detected the disc, came up with Dolby Vision on the screen, and.... Blank. Nothing else. Tried it again. Same. Tried a different disc. Same. Tried 2 more discs. Same.Wondering if it was my amp or Philips Hue sync box, I connected the bku ray player directly to the TV. Fired up the disc. Same.Went into the settings and disables Dolby Vision and the discs played fine. But I specifically wanted this player because it supports Dolby Vision.Got as far as arranging a return through Amazon when my partner said "Have you tried updating the firmware?" I said "It supports Dolby Vision out of the box. You won't have to update the firmware to get it to work." However, I relented and dug out a LAN cable (because it doesn't have WiFi) and updated it.5 mins later, after the firmware had updated, I tentatively tried a disc. Dolby Vision logo popped up on the screen... And the disc played! So in short, if you have purchased this specifically to watch blu rays in Dolby Vision, please make sure that your firmware is updated to 1.25 (not the 1.24 that it comes shipped with).
