Stripping old paint back to wood in a 1930s house. As there were several layers I suspected their was lead paint so I purchased Pawfly Lead Test Swabs before using a sander. Test swabs easy to use and confirmed my suspicion. Used approximate safety measures before continuing stripping paint.

Was very dubious about buying these looking across amazon at the reviews of similar products but tested on a few things I potentially thought may have been lead and no positive results.For testing these I did test on multiple pieces of lead flashing and instantly turned purple as shown on the box so actually confident they do work.For 60 swabs compared to others the value is absolutely brilliant. Not sure if will have enough liquid to do all the swabs but believe certain vinegar can be used as a substitute but yet to test that.

Have used these extensively to monitor and check for lead as I'm renovating my flat (built in the 1950's). The first few times I tested anything I didn't get any positives, which kind of made me wonder what all the fuss was about - but then all that changed when I accidentally dry sanded some paint that contained lead and the dust got everywhere! Fortunately I had the room sealed off anyway just par for the course - to try and prevent sanding dust spreading throughout the whole flat. So the lead dust was only in the one room and so easier to clean up - thank goodness. But it was truly fascinating to see the positive readings turn to negative readings once items and area's had been cleaned and decontaminated then rechecked afterwards. I've become much more methodical about testing now and these swabs have been so helpful in helping me manage the clean up and ongoing risk as I work through the other rooms. I'd definitely recommend for anyone renovating a property built before the 1980s. You don't need to freak out about it, or be scared or treat lead risks like you're dealing with nuclear waste or anything, but you do need to take sensible precautions and ensure you're not exposed to the lead if at all possible - and to do that you need to know that it's there! Just get some kits and test! It's so simple. Would high recommend.

I was unsure if the many layers of exterior paint on my house 1960's contained lead - this was very easy to use and results seemed consistent when trying a few swabs, there were loads in the pack so i have spare for testing other areas around the house. Fast delivery as always
