I bought Rit dye to refresh the color on my dining chairs because the original finish was fading. I followed the instructions carefully, but unfortunately, I wasn’t able to achieve a uniform color. After the process, the chairs looked blotchy and uneven, which was really disappointing.It seemed like a simple DIY fix, but it didn’t turn out as expected. Maybe it requires more experience or a different technique, but for a beginner like me, it was a bit of a fail.If you’re planning to use this product for furniture, I’d recommend testing on a small hidden area first or researching more tips on how to get even coverage.

I realize that most dyes won't cover up bleach stains completely, but I figured I would give this a try - even if it was able to make them less noticeable. I ordered the Charcoal Grey and its definitely not charcoal grey. its not even a grey. It turned out more of a dark brown then anywhere in the grey or black family. I used the color fixative afterwards as well. Not exactly sure if something went wrong or if that's just what they considered to be charcoal grey. If the color actually matched somewhat, then the bleach stains would definitely be less noticeable. So be forewarned that this color is not what you would expect. Planning on just ordering a black dye and just dye the whole shirt.

I don't know how to check the manufacturing date, but I suspect that these bottles are pretty old. The labels were faded, and there was a crust of pigment around the top of the lid of the dye bottle even after lots of shaking. I went ahead with my project, since the garment I was dying did not need to turn out perfect. You can get decent results with Rit products if you follow the instructions meticulously, but it turned out uneven and streaky this time.
