I have an old set of Record clamp heads and these are equal in quality. Very nice stuff. They did arrive missing a nut and the package was open...

The advantage of this type of clamp they are very flexible in what you can repair provided that you can find a long enough piece of hardwood that will fit between the two ends of the clamp.Where does one find such a piece of hardwood at no cost! Luckily our very old cat had badly scratched a leather settee/sofa: the sofa had to be replaced . I did not want to pay for a skip ,so I took it apart and saved the ash hardwood bars inside for use with this clamp. I drilled these wooden bars every couple of inches and then I gave them a light coat of tung oil for damp/rot protection. I have used these clamps in combination with these long pieces of timber for a wide variety of "Clamp and Glue" repair jobs.I also have an earlier "Record" generation (not Irwin Record) of these clamps (not bought on this site ) made by the original Record company (taken over later to become Irwin Record as per now) . These Record originals have a smaller amount of screwing thread and a more restricted clamping capacity as a result. The newer clamps (the ones I am reviewing here) have about twice as much clamping thread which is very useful as the clamping capacity is thereby increased a lot by this extra thread. So in this respect the newer ones are better. However the old ones had a fixing rod attacked to a short link chain (so these rods could never be lost). The new variety has a nut and bolt as a fixer which could be lost or mislaid easily. The old Record clamps are stamped "No 130" whereas the newer ones (bought here) are stamped "M130" .I don't know which I like the best the best : they can be used together which I do. I think in "real terms" the clamps are a lot cheaper than they use to be.Their old price meant that I treated them as almost a luxury purchase: now they are quite affordable and represent very good value for a well made and durable product that will last a long time if kept properly greased and protected from rust.I find these tools very well made and useful. I tend to use them more than "Steel Bar " type clamps which have a steel bar rather than this wooden bar to connect the ends.
