These worked great for planer board lines to help move the line out and away from the boat nicely.

I love that I can plug this into my downrigger mount on my hobie revolution 13 or outback and it makes pulling crab traps WAY WAY easier. Feels very sturdy. A must-have for the kayak crabber!

We have the light weight metal crab traps that collapse down flat if you want. They are roughly 2.5' wide x 16" high. Not heavy and not hard to pull up, but still, you have to lean over the edge of the boat and pull to ensure the trap doesn't bang against the side of the boat. I didn't want to invest and install a crab davit b/c we don't hit the bay often enough.Unfortunately, my existing rod holders aren't Scotty brand, so the pulley wouldn't fit into an existing base. No biggie. I installed this on the side and was surprised at just how sturdy this thing is. Being that it's plastic composite material, I figured it wouldn't be all that sturdy. It is! We were able to pull our traps with ease, and it's great that the pulley head swivels side to side, so that as you start pulling, if your trap is ahead of behind and the rope is angled bow or stern way, the pulley will angle that direction so the rope doesn't just pop out of the pulley track.Overall, if you are pulling light duty traps, this is a no brainer. Get it. You can take out the pulley when not in use and easy to store. I don't know how well this would hold up to the really heavy circular crab pots.

This works fairly well for what it is. If you pull crab pots it beats the heck out of dragging line against your gunnel and wearing a groove in it. It does keep the line away from the side of the boat and the roller reduced drag. That makes it better than leaning out and pulling the rope straight up -or- using the boat to run the rope on. You can stand flat footed on the deck and pull until the pot is fully up or close enough to grab and lift the final couple feet.The unit is sturdy and fits a standard Scotty mount. A step up would be a davit but that's a lot more money.
