Sharp, strong, and well made. Definitely worth the price. The "scalloped" grip gives a good positive hold, and I'd feel confident keeping this controlled even around ice with chilled / wet hands. I like having a pick, awl, or marlin spike on hand when I'm working on chores, crafts, or outdoors, and this is now one of my favorites for that role. Good item to remember if you need a small gift for folks too!

When you have an old freezer an ice pick is mandatory. The ice maker ceased working 10 years ago and any time the thermostat drops the ice (purchased from a store) melts a bit and refreezes and if it isn't whittled down a few times a day it will morph into an iceberg. If heavy enough it will cause the freezer door to randomly launch open at 15 MPH and the ice will land on the ground with a resounding thud. Even this is not enough to break the ice into usable pieces. The harrowing thought of a ricochet hazard from the door bouncing off one's skull if unfortunate enough to be standing in front of the freezer when a 10 lb. iceberg decides it is time to make a run for it plus a 10 lb. iceberg landing on one's bare foot caused some tense moments. A secondary ricochet of random ice pieces will fly in every direction but even the hard floor isn't enough to take a 10 lb. iceberg down more than an ounce or two at best but it will pulverize the bag containing the ice. Didn't have the patience to deal with an ice pick which had a metal coating that will chip off and has many negative reviews so skipped all of the hassle and went for the LTR with the titanium. Ordered it and thanks to Prime it arrived prior to houseguests who remained blissfully ignorant to the aforementioned dilemma.

My mom has a small candy-making business and goes through a lot of chocolate. That chocolate comes in giant bars that have to be chopped up into small pieces before being used. She has gone through a lot of traditional ice picks and knives and chippers and specialty chocolate tools and nothing really works well for this job. This is working amazingly well, though. It's unbreakable (certainly by chocolate), super sharp and long enough for good leverage. We gave her a large plastic cutting board to absorb the tip of the ice pick as she's chopping. I think for this purpose, the only improvement might be some moldable plastic to make a comfortable grip. This will likely be the last chocolate chipper she will ever need.
