Good effort on the part of the manufacturer to create a comfortable Snake Gaiter. Unfortunately, their efforts fall short in the design where protection from snake bites is concerned. I gave them an extra star for the design of the front half of the Gaiter which consists of a large panel with a hard plastic insert that covers the leg well and is resistant to puncture. I tested the puncture resistance with a sewing needle and was unable to puncture the panel with a good bit of effort. Unfortunately, it is the remaining sections of the Gaiters are where snake bite proofing falls short. The rear sections consist of sewn one-inch-wide panels to allow the gaiter to wrap around your leg. The rear sections have a hard plastic insert in each section and a small gap in between each of the panels. Note the seam lines in the photo. A needle easily penetrates in-between each of the sewn panels. (See Photo) The ease of penetration does not promote a feeling of confidence that the rear of your legs would be safe wearing this Snake Gaiter. Additional Concerns: The Toung Guard has no protection it is only cloth leaving shoelace holes open to penetration. The Gaiter only comes down to the top of your ankle and there is no boot strap to keep the Gaiter in place while walking and climbing. Sorry cannot recommend this Snake Gaiter

I live in S. Texas and have been questioned many times when I hunt why I don't wear these... there are snakes everywhere. Anyway, I got them with high hopes.Compared to other snake chaps I have seen, these seem to be pretty much the same. They have hard plastic panels in front and in most places in the back as well. There are gaps, but I can't imagine a snake would aim for a small gap to get his bite through and the mechanics of that happening seem to be implausible. The tongue cover is only material so a bite could get through there, but it would then have to go through your shoe fabric or through a shoelace eyelet... again, implausible. Overall they seem like they will provide excellent protection from snake bites and I am looking forward to using them on my next hot country hunting trip!!

These snake gators are so easy to use, very lightweight, and are perfect for outdoorsman or fisherman. I do a lot of hiking near trout streams and have encountered snakes a lot. These give me an ease of mind now. Very stable once snapped around your legs. The fit can be adjusted to your liking. Great value and an essential when doing outdoor activities. I recommend to anyone, these are great!!!

Gave this as a gift to my boyfriend and he says that they work great. They fit him really well and they are tall enough that they also help protect him when he’s hiking from branches and other things such as poison or poison ivy. They are very durable and very easy to use. He says that they fit his legs very well and he weighs 250 pounds. He says they are lightweight and easy with him and he recommend.

While I have come across a few pacific rattle snakes in parks around the Central coast, California does not have a severe problem with “snakes in the grass”. The grass is a different matter - when the State turns golden in early summer, it is almost impossible to walk across a field within getting covered in painful awns. I tested these gaiters while checking bluebird boxes in an overgrown meadow. As a control I initially attached a gaiter to one leg only. After a 50 yard walk the attached photo shows the difference in the awns in my socks. These gaiters have a guard to cover the front of the shoe, but nothing at the sides to cover below ankle level. Hence, they only work while wearing boots. After wearing for about 1/2 hour the gaiters tend to rotate so the front guard no longer faces forward. They need a strap that goes under the boot to fix this. While these gaiters may be a bit of an overkill for grass protection, they would be useful when walking in thorny brush country.
