This is in no way the cheapest solution, but it works perfectly for the setup I wanted.I purchased the USB 3 version with the additional USB 3 port about a year ago while building myself a new work space at home. This product allows me to run a 2nd monitor, wired mechanical keyboard (dasKeyboard 4 ultimate), and a wireless mouse (plugged into the keyboard), all off of a single USB port on my laptop.I have not had any issues with this product, and I have used it on 2 separate laptops. I was initially afraid that running other accessories piggybacked on the same port running my monitor would create lag and other issues, but after a year the performance has been flawless.

I love this little device. Although it doesn't come standard with drivers for Mac, the chipset it uses is the Magic Control Technology, Corp., chipset. So, as someone else posted, you have to go the MCT website (mct . com . tw) and download the drivers for the U3-A8500 display adapter. Although it indicates it is for HDMI, it IS the one you want if you plan to use this with your Mac. I have a 15" MacBook Pro (non-retina) and it took me all of 10 minutes to open the package, connect the cables, download the drivers, install them, and reboot. The downloaded .dmg filename will be "T2-Mac-Install-m-1228.dmg".So now I have 3 monitors total: the built-in display of the MacBook, a 27" HP 2710m, and a 21" HP 20wm.I'd have given it 5 stars, but seriously, how hard is it to supply this driver either in the packaging or on the Startech website. They even put an errata sheet in the top of the box telling you to go to their website and download the latest drivers! But don't bother, as of the date of this review (5/3/2014), it is not on the Startech website.Hope you found this review helpful.

If all you want is a picture on the screen then this is fine but as soon as motion is displayed is looses all stability. This was on a MBP retina.

I got these to work with a monitor stand and my laptop. I can tell you that this was a completely painless installation. Per the instructions in the box, download the latest drivers from their website. Then plug the adapter into the USB port and you're off to the races. The included software lets you shift a window from one screen to another with ease. It's nice but I'm not using that feature all that much at present. Worked well with Windows 7. I went from 2 screens with my Dell Laptop + docking station to 4.I should point out that although it says that you can use the attached USB 3.0 port for another device, I thought I'd be clever and attach the second monitor through the first device in a daisy chain. That didn't work very well. There's a decided lag. The adapters work best when they're the first item in the chain.
