I've used Swann Morton scalpels and blades for most of my professional life. They remain superb. That said, newer technologies have come to the fore since.

Absolutel game changer for working with agar plates, this handle is so nimble compared to other scalpel handles I've used. it's like using a nice pen to write. Highly recommend upgrading to one of these

This handle is just a little bit longer and better balanced. Takes all the standard blades.

Good to find this. It's more or less indentical the long handle that used to be the number 5. Swann Morton have obviously changed their numbering system over the last few decades as the number 5 is now a short rather broad handle. If you prefer a long handle, and in my opinion they are much easier to control, then this is the one for you.The handle was delivered quickly and at a very reasonable price.
