This is a well researched, well written account of the years preceding the Anglo Boer war. While there is much available on the war itself, I found little to explain the issues that eventually led to the war. For anyone interested in South African history this is a must read as it gives a credible perspective on the origins of the insular, exclusive mindset that has been the hallmark of SA social political landscape far into the 20th century.
