Not sure how much of a difference it made, but it was easy to install and the temps are good on my PNY RTX 5080.

I've been doing some PS3 (phat) repair lately. One of the things I run into is that when taking the metal shields off the motherboard top and bottom, there are heatsink pads on many of the chips (other than the Cell and RSX processors), which tear. The heatsink compound is also a decade or more old, so it might be good to replace them anyway. You have to get the thickness right to make good contact with the metal shields, and not be too think to compromise heat flow. These 2mm pads are the right thickness for this application. There aren't any stats on this compound, and the chips in question don't have temperature data from the system management processor, so there isn't a good way to compare performance before and after. So cannot comment on that. One thing to be aware of is how you trim off the right amount of material. I first tried this with scissors, leaving the protective sheets on top and bottom. It kind of worked, but I suggest cutting with a knife after removing one side of the plastic covering. The photo shows what happens to the edges when you use scissors: the edge get squished and you lose a little thickness. You also can get an inaccurate cut. Don't leave the material uncovered though, because it can accumulate dust and dirt that interferes with its performance. The Blu-Ray drive boards also have at least one pad, but I haven't replaced any of those recently, so I don't have data on whether these are a good fit for that application.

The thermal pad offers a clean, efficient, and highly effective alternative to traditional thermal pastes. Designed for GPUs, SSDs, CPUs, and other heat-sensitive components, it ensures consistent and reliable heat transfer without the mess or maintenance associated with pastes. Its high thermal conductivity allows heat to dissipate efficiently, preventing thermal buildup that can degrade performance and shorten component lifespan.Unlike thermal pastes, which require precise application and dry out over time, thermal pads provide a set-it-and-forget-it solution. They are pre-sized, easy to cut, and offer uniform coverage, eliminating the risk of air bubbles, uneven application, or excess material mess. Because they are electrically non-conductive, there is no danger of short circuits, making them a safer choice for applications where precision is critical. These thermal pads are particularly beneficial for upgrading stock cooling solutions. Many factory-installed thermal pads on graphics cards and SSDs are of lower quality, leading to higher temperatures and potential thermal throttling over time. Replacing them with high-quality aftermarket thermal pads can result in noticeable temperature reductions, improving stability and longevity.I use thermal pads for all my electronic cooling needs. From high-end water-cooled multiple CPUs and graphics cards to high-output LED chips (50-500w), high-power MOSFETs, and other devices that demand efficient cooling. DO the right thing and clean both surfaces with Isopropyl alcohol before applying the pad.REMOVAL?? It can be difficult, and your best friend would sometimes be a single-edged razor blade. I have spent time removing some CPU heat sinks because the pad adheres very well. The plus side is the pad comes off CLEAN. No residue or pieces were left behind like some other thermal tapes in the past. For M.2 SSDs, which generate significant heat under heavy workloads, a high-performance thermal pad can help maintain optimal read and write speeds while preventing throttling. The same applies to VRMs and power delivery components, where improved heat dissipation increases system stability and efficiency.Durability is another significant advantage of thermal pads. Unlike pastes that dry out, crack, or degrade, thermal pads remain flexible and effective over long periods. Their compressible nature allows them to conform to component surfaces, ensuring maximum thermal contact. This long-term reliability makes them ideal for workstations, gaming setups, industrial systems, and other applications where minimal maintenance is preferred. While thermal pastes still have a role, thermal pads provide a good option for many applications due to their ease of use, consistency, and long-term effectiveness. They are especially useful for those who prefer a clean, hassle-free thermal solution that requires no periodic reapplication. Whether upgrading a GPU, fine-tuning an SSD cooling setup, or improving thermal performance across multiple components, these thermal pads deliver exceptional heat transfer with zero mess.

I used the 1.5mm on all the chips extept the main GPU die on my NVIDIA 4080 Super FE, and it brought the temps down significantly. This is not meant for the GPU die however! I used the Thermal Grizzly Kryosheet for the main die, works great! Switched it to the Minus Pad Pro on the main die for comparison, and the temps were insanely high. Kryosheet is the way to go there.

Thermal Grizzly knows what they are doing and they make a great product. These pads are no exception but may be overkill for some. The pad is fairly thick and works great to replace thermal paste or pads for components that need thicker pads because of clearance. I used it to replace thermal pads on a GPU and it did a fantastic job. My only con is the pricing on the pads. They are quite pricey for what you get. There are other thermal pad or putty replacement options out there that work just as well but at a fraction of the cost. If you are OK with the price though, this is a quality product.
