Amazing meter! Can’t say enough good things! Extremely sensitive and spot on. I’ve fixed 2 gas leaks with it. Don’t waste your time with Menards, or home depot cheap ines- they are junk! Trust me- been there.

This is one of those gadgets that you are not sure when you'll use it, but weirdly I found a use pretty soon after getting it.My Dad's new caravan (New to him) had a problem with the gas fridge staying lit. I ordered and fitted a new thermocouple and used the detector to ensure there were no gas leaks after my installation works.The unit comes in a protective case and has a fairly long sensor head that was really useful getting into tight spaces..It does take a while to boot up when switched on, but once ready, it's easy to test by giving it a little sniff of an unlit gas ring. Always prove devices like this are working properly before every use.Don't know when I'll use it again, but for sure it'll get some use.

Worked REALLY well at detecting even the smallest amounts of gas. Used it to triple check my connections to our gas stove and double check all of my gas pipes in the basement. It detected gas where I hooked up the gas line and then I noticed I did it wrong, so it basically saved me. Highly recommend this product if you are doing anything with gas.

Read the instruction manual thoroughly for safe and efficient use. It sensitive and accurate and I highly recommended it.

We have a gas fireplace in the basement, and for the life me, I have thought I could - at times - smell gas, natural gas. We even had a young guy come over, who stated the unit was fine. But that faint smell still seemed to linger. I finally turned off the gas supply going to the unit, to simply by-pass everything at and in the fireplace.This device by TopTes has just confirmed what I have suspected all along - a very small gas leak.The PT-830S - the actual model number - is a solid, well thought out tester. The exterior is a some kind of heavy-duty plastic or it may have a coating on it, but the unit provides some "grip" on your hands. The shape has waist to the design, which results in a device that is easy to hold onto.The lack of replaceable batteries is a personal preference. With built-in batteries, you do need to keep them charged but you generally don't need to worry about batteries leaking inside. This unit charges up quickly and has the USB-C charging port at a simple location at the bottom front.The screen provides a lot of information - so much so, that you need to navigate to different screens to take advantage of all the information that this unit can give you. It even has "history" that will store on-board, including time, date and what the event was. Remarkable!The sensor head is at the end of a somewhat short 5/8" flexible cable, about 13" long. The sensor its self adds about one more inch to the total length. As this sensor and cable adds front weight to the meter, I found it rather difficult to move around. Yes, the design is excellent and the sensor at the end of an extension cable is a great, but it does sacrifice balance in your hand. I was able to completely eliminate this issue by putting a loop into the extension cable. Now the sensor is only about 3.5" in front of the meter and just a bit higher. This makes the centre point of balance about mid-screen on the meter - a vast improvement and far less tiring during testing.The alerts include an audio alarm, a whole unit vibration and a visual flashing of built-in LED lights around the meter.There are two different scales where you can see the gas in the air. The meter will tell you the kind of gas, and the concentration with numbers and/or graphs. As the meter moved through and then away from the gas, I noticed the meter responded quickly, both in detection mode and also in recovery mode. The meter would was responding quickly as the gas concentration changed.Bottom Line - I feel confident calling this a professional unit. Rugged, full featured and easy to use controls. Also comes with a three year warranty - to me, that shows Toptes's commitment to quality. Even comes with an excellent case, big enough to hold the meter, charging cable and user manual.
