I have used these gas struts to replace a pair on a unit using the same size struts. They do seem firmer to activate than the circa 7 year old set that they have replaced. I am not an expert on gas struts and have no idea of the level of degradation in the seals of this item, which from our knowledge of our infrequently used struts was little if any. I am fairly confident though that any mechanism of this type has to degrade over time as the gas itself degrades as do the seals.I have awarded this item 5 stars on the basis that they are well made, they work, are not too difficult to install and they should last, although only time will tell.

The gas struts in my sofa bed had started losing pressure meaning the seat kept slowly collapsing when left open. These gas struts are the exact right fit, and replacing the old ones was a doddle. The seat now stays where it should, just like when the sofa was new!
