I'm a cybersecurity professional and appreciate a properly functioning product. As an offensive security professional, I am hired to test the security of a clients network and their ability to respond to a threat on their systems, be it a network, physically, socially, or other. We utilize Raspberry Pi setups quite a bit because they are small, powerful, and one of the least expensive devices that perform all the needed functions.One of my clients wanted to test their PLCs that work along their ICS network. I learned through some quick research that these PLCs communicate through the RS-485 standard. This add-on board allowed us to create a Python program that could then communicate with the PLCs, through a remotely accessible R-Pi, giving us the ability to test the security of the ICS network and their response to an active threat.We found the Waveshare expansion hat to be well built and perform perfectly. The documentation was clear and concise, and wiring diagrams accurate, and the community support great. Huge fan of this one! I will say that it is priced a bit high given it's about $10 less directly on their website, but I can understand the difference and need.

This Waveshare Isolated RS485/RS232 Expansion HAT has proven to be a valuable addition to my Raspberry Pi setup. It provides both RS485 and RS232 interfaces, expanding my Pi's connectivity options for communication with a variety of devices.The onboard protection circuits give me peace of mind knowing that my Pi is safe from potential voltage spikes or other electrical hazards. The SPI control is efficient and reliable, and the HAT format makes installation a breeze. I've been using it for a project involving communication with industrial sensors, and it's been working flawlessly.
