Maybe not your first choice for hiking, but a very useful extra rain cover to have to hand when you get caught in the rain. Just the thing to keep in the back of the car or even in the bottom of the rucksack. It has three popper studs on each side which fasten under the arm holes to form a hooded cover. It is long and has plenty of space to accommodate a rucksack underneath. It is light and thin, made of a type of rip-stop material. In these days of long waits for breakdown rescue services, it's an essential piece of emergency kit for the car boot.

This is somewhere between an emergency poncho and long term reuasable poncho. It's made of Tafeta, with a ripstop pattern (so not quite as durable as Ripstop Nylon), but much lighter and thinner, so it'll take up barely any space in your pack, so no reason to not always have it with you. There's nothing worse than checking the weather for a hike and finding that the weatherman lied to you.Don't get me wrong this isn't a throwaway cheap poncho, if you're careful with it, it could last for a good couple of years. As for the claims that it's triple use as Poncho, Groundsheet and a shelter, I'd probably only use it as an emergency lean to shelter or a tarp over a hammock, I really wouldn't choose to have a bugout wild camp under it. Its dimensions when fully unfolded are 210 long and 145 wide, so if you planned on having a two sided tent (allowing for a 45 degree slope to the sides, you'd only have about floor space of around 102cm wide and 210 long and a height of around 51cm, so no real headroom. As a poncho/Groundsheet though it's perfectly functional. One point to note though, the hood and pocket are only single stitched and don't look like they've been seam sealed, which is fine for the hood, but I wouldn't want to carry anything heavy than a paper map in the pocket as I feel that the stitching will open up the seams if 'any' stress is put on them. With the current pricepoint of just under £14 quid I think that this is an ideal lightweight reusable poncho for hikers/cyclists (particularly with the retro reflective strip on the back), but if you want something for multi-day treks through heavy rain and as a rain shelter, then you're gonna need to invest a lot more money for a military spec one with that's Ripstop Nylon with at least 160 cm (better 180-200cm) width. I have seen these on other sites not amazon and they come in at £60+ and will still probably only last a couple of years.

I like this style.Covers me almost entirely, just my shins and feet exposed with it on.Waterproof, has a pocket with a flap.Has button up sides, may be difficult to do solo.
