This NAS replaced my good old synology DS1817+ which I loved. The reason I needed a newer one was the performance. I use the NAS for Docker, Time Machine, general data storage and Plex storage. While this bad boy can actually transcode on the fly pretty much without trouble, I opted for a dedicated transcoding machine, so that I have enough "umph" for the rest of the things that run on it.The synology was not only quite dated, thus slow, but for my new location of the network infrastructure I needed something that would fit my network rack. This NAS fits it without any issue, doesn't need additional PCIe card for 10g networking as it has a 10g nic built-in.Set-up was very familiar, not that different to my old Synology. The Qnap was up and running within minutes. The drives were upgraded a couple of days later and it was as easy as it can get. Replace disks one by one and within a week of RAID rebuilds I had four times the original capacity of my old NAS.It is quiet , even in performance cooling mode. One can hear the NAS only when e.g. something (like raid scrubbing) hits the CPU pretty hard and then the fans spin up. Still, when I close the rack I can't hear it anymore and the temps stay below 50 at all times.

It has about as much umph as an asthmatic fly. Please ensure you look at benchmarks and testing for the applications of your use because this thing to me, is only capable of storage and RAID, but if that is the case all QNAP NAS can do this. Caching and SSD management is also horrendous. This will never properly utilise the 10GbE (20 total) connectivity ports either.Terrible performance and terrible value.
