Not tapered towards the tipped.Photo depicts a traditional narrowing towards the tip.I need tapering for serrated knives.

I've no idea what is "tactical" about this - you'd have to be very desperate indeed to want to hit someone with it. But if you want to sharpen knives: whilst renting a holiday cottage (they're always blunt), or at home, or to put a great edge on your pocket knife, then get one of these. I've two (including a spare) and they've been part of the "leaving home" kit for both my sons when heading off to university.

I have many of the smaller Whitby sharpening steels which accompany my various knives when on the Farm or out hunting. This is a larger version and is everything I expected. Very happy with the product and the service. Very fast delivery and well packaged.

Good size and profile for steeling a hunting or survival knife in the field; however, the steel arrived with several gouges that seriously affected the ability to use the steel to its full potential (see photo). The packaging showed no signs of impact. Therefore I have to conclude that this is a case of poor quality control from the manufacturer.

A sharpening steel in necessary must to have tool in bushcraft pack because it helps to repair edged tools and to restore sharpness.
